Culture & Vibe
What’s the vibe like at Indy Hall?
How many people work at Indy Hall?
On a normal day you’re likely to be working alongside 50-70 people, but because our full time members are mixed in with all of our flex members, you’re likely to see a different mix of people almost every day.
I don’t need a place to work, can I still join?
Common misconception: coworking is for when you need a desk!
Whether you hope to be able to work from Indy Hall’s coworking space in the future, or you just want to be more connected to a community of likeminded professionals (but don’t need a physical place to work), there’s a ton of value you can access from anywhere with our Online Membership.
Groupbuzz is our members-only email discussion list
Slack is like a watercooler full of special interest chat rooms,
everything from business & productivity to movies & comic books
What industries do most Indy Hall members work in?
There’s no single dominant industry at Indy Hall – the things we have in common is that we care about our work, our sense of independence, and the people who we choose to work around.
Our community is the intersection of designers, developers, writers, artists, entrepreneurs, scientists, architects, lawyers, accountants, educators, non-profits, small business owners, telecommuters, marketers, videographers, game developers, and so much more.
Some members are experienced industry veterans. Others are just breaking into their field and working to find their way.
Does Indy Hall run events? When, what kinds?
We have a mix of events almost every week ranging from casual get togethers to intensive learning opportunities. Events are generally free or discounted for members to attend, and open to the public with an RSVP or a ticket depending on the event.
If you’re ever interested in an event but not sure if you’re allowed to attend, drop us a line!
Most of our best events come from members suggesting and running events themselves – if you have an idea, we’ll help you figure out how to make it happen.
Some community-favorite recurring highlights include:
- Show & Tell – . This event is from 12-1pm every third Thursday, and is our longest running monthly event (est 2007)!
- Open Hall – We often schedule special events during the day and in the evening on First Friday Open Halls, so in addition to a productive work day you’ll have lots of opportunities to meet people.
- N3rd Street Breakfast Meetup – every month we team up with our neighbors at Linode to host a breakfast meetup for anyone who lives and works in the Old City community.
And many, many more!
It’s also a great idea to follow us on Twitter, Instagram, and our Facebook page for invitations and reminders about upcoming events!
Can I bring my kid(s) to Indy Hall?
We love meeting Indy Hall’s next generation!
Can I bring my dog to Indy Hall?
We love dogs, but our building doesn’t allow dogs inside. Sorry!
Licensed service dogs are welcome, of course.
Can I hang my art on the walls?
Does the turtle have a name?
This is Timmy the Turtle.
He’s an eastern Pennsylvania spotted turtle.
He’s very friendly, and loves people…but he doesn’t like being picked up.
Alex (one of the co-founding members) has had Timmy since he was 4 years old…so over 30 years!
Resources & Amenities
Can I rent a private office?
How much does it cost to use a meeting room?
If you think you’ll need more regular meeting room usage as a member, it’s best to talk to our team about your needs so we can make some recommendations for you.
If you’re not a member but are looking for a friendly and inspiring place to meet with 2-10 people, please email us to discuss more details.
Can I reserve a conference room in advance?
Can I use Indy Hall as my business address, and receive mail or deliveries?
Active members are allowed to use Indy Hall as their business address and receive official mail. You just need to remember to come and claim it on a regular basis! If you’re simply looking for a virtual mail service, we probably aren’t your best option.
I’m a new parent returning to work, do you have somewhere comfortable for nursing/pumping?
I’m an artist, so my work is kinda messy. Do you have studios, or a maker space?
While we don’t have dedicated art studios, we have a a special room we call The Lab that’s designed for messier work that you can’t quite do at a desk, including screen printing, developing photos, painting, and more.
The lab also have a large basin sink for washing supplies, and a variety of tools you can use for making and fixing things!
Do you have a printer? How much does it cost?
If you need to do some light printing (~15-20 pages/month or less), we have both a black & white printer and wide-format color printer that all members can use for for free.
If you have heavier printing needs, we can recommend a nearby print shops in Old City to handle your job.
Billing & Payments
Do I have to sign a long term contract?
All of our memberships are flexible and month-to-month, which means no long term contract! We know that the reality of our work and lives is that needs change over time. So we’ve made it easy for you to upgrade or change your membership level to fit your life and changing situation.
All we ask is for a minimum 1 month (30 days) notice of a change.
So in lieu of a long term contract, when you sign up we collect a last month deposit equal to the level of membership that you choose.
If you provide a minimum of 30 days notice of a cancellation or downgrade, we will refund your deposit. If you do not provide at least 30 days notice, we will keep the deposit amount to cover your final month payment before cancelling your membership.
Note: if you upgrade your membership, the difference of your deposit will be charged to keep them matching.
Do I have to “sign in”? How can I keep track of the coworking days I use each month?
You do not have to sign in! Just show up, say hi, and get to work.
If you’re ever unsure how many credits you have left on your membership, you can log in to https://members.indyhall.org to see your remaining credits (along with your billing date and past invoices).
Behind the scenes, our team takes note of who is coworking in our space throughout the day, and when we take attendance our fancy membership software automatically pulls from however many day credits you have based on your membership. If you use more days than your membership includes, those additional days are automatically added to your monthly invoices at $18/day.
If you’re just stopping by to check mail or say hello to someone, it’s very helpful to let one of our teammates know that you’re just visiting and not to include you in that day’s attendance.
And if you ever have any concerns about your billing or attendance, you can email us!
Is there a discount for partial work days?
Sorry, we don’t bill in partial-day increments.
We generally define a work-day at Indy Hall as anything > 2 hours, excluding any times where you come for special events.
If you’re here to work and an emergency arises and you have to leave early in the day, or you arrive late in the day but want to get some work done, you can ask us not to count the day against your days.
Can I bring guests and clients to Indy Hall? Is there a charge?
Yes, and we love when our members are proud of Indy Hall and want to share it with their friends and colleagues.
If you’re meeting with a client (in a one of our conference rooms, lounges, or common areas) there’s no additional charge for them to meet with you.
There are two scenarios where it’s appropriate to pay for a day pass ($30) for your guest or client.
Scenario 1: your guest or client is meeting with you at Indy Hall for >2 hours
Scenario 2: your guest or client is at Indy Hall to do work for you
Just let us know any time you have a guest or client that you’d like to pay for, and we can add a guest pass to your next invoice.
And if you’d prefer your guest pays for their own day pass, just send us us their contact information so we can provide them with payment details!
What payment methods can I use?
We accept all major credit cards for our monthly memberships.
Our secure membership portal automatically charges your membership every month on the same day that you joined.
If you (or your employer) prefers to pay with a check or ACH transfer, please email team@indyhall.org.
How do I update my billing information?
If you’re already a member, you should be able to log in to https://members.indyhall.org. If you originally signed up on our old membership platform, your login might not work, so please email team@indyhall.org and we will help you get connected!
Once you’re logged into the membership portal, you can update your billing information as well as preview upcoming invoices, see how many days you’ve been at Indy Hall during your current membership cycle, and more.
