Ending This Year Better Than We Started
Alex Hillman
At a recent holiday party, I shared something that felt important to say out loud and I wanted to share it here too.
For much of the last five years, nearly a quarter of our history, Indy Hall has been operating under some form of pressure or crisis.
From COVID itself, to the weird challenges of rebuilding after 2 years of quarantine, to challenges with our building/landlord that had this hermit crab of a coworking community ready to look for a new shell.
It’s been, shall we say, a time.
But for the last few months for the first time in five years, it doesn’t feel like we’re in crisis mode.
It feels like we know who we are.
We know what we do.
We know who our peers are.
We know who our community is.
And I’ll tell you what, it feels really good.
So Adam and I want to say thank you — in as complete a way as we can — to everyone who helped make that possible.
Thank you to everyone who:
- has been a member of Indy Hall for ANY amount of time
- came for a Pay-What-You-Wish Friday
- attended an event, whether ours or organized by one of our awesome community partners
- bought a Clubhouse Card, for yourself or someone else
- bought a day pass
- held a meeting or a retreat here
- brought a friend to try coworking with us
- shared a meal with fellow members
- participated in our first MiniBar (next one coming in January!)
- brought us an idea, or helped bring that idea to life
- helped another member in some way, big or small
- shared encouragement during the tough moments and reminded us why this work matters
And also thank you to everyone whose contributions are quieter, but just as meaningful—everyone who:
- made a fresh pot of coffee for the next person
- washed their dishes instead of leaving them in the sink
- helped when something broke in the building, whether that meant letting us know or cleaning up a mess you didn’t create
- welcomed a new visitor or member
- noticed a confused guest walking in off the street, let them in, and guided them to someone who could help
- used a plus-one pass to bring a friend, whether or not that friend became a member
- left a Google review (and if you haven’t yet, here’s the link)
- mentions Indy Hall to friends, coworkers, or other communities when someone asks where they might find people to collaborate with, or simply spend part of their day with
All of it matters. None of it is taken for granted.
