Learn Our Rights, Stand Up to ICE
Alex Hillman
During my opening remarks at the Good Neighbors hackathon, I started by saying something to the effect of:
“If you’re looking for problems to solve, just look outside and find a neighbor who needs help.”
But there are some problems that aren’t quite solvable in a hackathon, like the presence of bullies and thugs from ICE in our city and neighborhoods.
Like so many things in our world today, I find myself mad and not knowing what to do with the skills and resources I have. But I do know that I want to stand up and do something, and I know I’m not alone there.
So over the last few months, with the help of some politically connected members, we’ve been working with the folks at PA Senator Nikil Saval’s office to bring a special community training to Indy Hall.
On Monday March 30th, they’re bringing us a free in-person training to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence to defend our communities against ICE.
The program will cover the rights that all of us have as people on U.S. soil, the basics of safe and thoughtful bystander intervention, and steps we can ALL take to keep our neighbors and each other safe.
Space is limited but I’d encourage members to attend if you feel like I do.
Also, please consider inviting your friends and neighbors who want to be informed and prepare as well.
RSVP is FREE and required: https://luma.com/iceout
I hope to see you there. Cuz Fuck Ice.
