This Week's Hi-5:
Fake Spring and Brad's Spring Wardrobe
Alex Hillman
Happy Friday, y’all.
This was the week where Philly gave us a taste of spring, then…you know what I don’t wanna talk about it.
Let’s remember those handful of “San Diego Days” as our friend Michael Sperger says, and the good things that happened while they were here (and look forward to more to come).
Here’s 5 quick things that made us wanna share a high five:
1. Fake Spring, Real Vibes
Earlier this week, the weather tricked us into thinking spring had arrived.
The garage doors to our roof were open, jackets were off, and the vibe at the clubhouse was truly immaculate.
What happened after that? Who can tell.
I’m choosing to remember the good days and pretend the rest didn’t happen.
2. The Big Philly Meetup MashUp is SOLD OUT
Our Good Neighbors hackathon officially sold out, which means the stress shifted from “will people come?” to “let’s make this incredible.”
When I say sold out I mean sold out. We were at MAX capacity.
Thanks to all of our partner communities and sponsors - show ‘em some love over here if you can.
3. The Workshop So Popular We Added Virtual Seats
Joe Kovach’s upcoming Intro to Obsidian: Build Your “Second Brain” workshop got so much interest that we decided to add a virtual attendance option since in-person space is limited.
Whether you’re drowning in browser tabs or just want a better system for organizing your ideas, this one’s for you.
4. Attention Kmart Shoppers
One of our members discovered that there’s an official KMRT Radio app that plays the music that used to play over the speakers at Kmart in the 90s - including the original “Attention Kmart Shoppers” in-store ads.
If you want to know what was playing in 1994, I enjoyed a MIDI cover of “Always” by Erasure while writing this.
So if you hear that iconic announcement coming over the speakers at the clubhouse, now you know why.
5. What Should Brad Wear for Spring?
Our resident 12’ Skeleton Brad Neubones has been rocking a cozy flannel since Christmas, so one of our members kicked off a very important discussion: what should Brad’s spring wardrobe look like?
Well, the people have spoken:
- Ben went classic Philly: “Phils tshirt and cargo shorts, naturally.”
- Hannah swung for the fences: “I’d like to see Brad dressed in outfits to recreate iconic photos of Alex Hillman throughout history.”
- Walt proposed Recursive Brad: “A shirt with his photo, and every year we take a photo of him wearing the shirt and print a new shirt.”
- Victoria asked the question on everyone’s mind: “Have we considered Brad-sized jorts?”
Brad gets final say but…he tends to go with the flow.
